In the 1960s, the USAF trained officers at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi to maintain the software in the AN/FSQ-7 computers of the SAGE system. The manual linked below covered the machine language and assembler coding part of that course.
Near the end of the course, the students were given one eight-hour day shift in the SAGE blockhouse at Gunter AFB, Montgomery, Alabama to test and debug their student programs. Instructors could precede them during the midnight shift to create course materials and hone their skills with other programming opportunities (e.g., the music programs linked below.
